“Humidity Horrors” Award Winner Announced After a Hotly Contested Competition

Advantix Systems, a leading manufacturer of energy efficient dehumidification and cooling solutions, announced today the winner of its nationwide Humidity Horrors contest, designed to uncover extreme conditions of humidity that can be prevented by utilizing energy saving liquid desiccant technology.
Innovative Service Solutions, an Orlando-based HVAC/R mechanical services provider, won first prize for its discovery of high humidity problems in a refrigerated distribution center. The facility faced many dehumidification issues caused by refrigeration lines that ran above coolers, freezers located in unconditioned areas and unsecured dock doors that allowed moisture to flood the space. Additional problems from the humidity included frosted coils, clogged drain lines and premature insulation failure-caused refrigeration loss, which are all costly and time-consuming issues to remedy.
The humid air caused water to condense on surface areas and ice to form on freezer floors, posing significant slipping hazards. The facility was also required to constantly run electric heat strips to defrost the coils, wasting an enormous amount of energy and driving operating costs.
Advantix Systems created the Humidity Horrors competition to highlight the many hazards and challenges posted by humid work environments, and educate business owners that humidity problems can be prevented by liquid desiccant dehumidification technology.
Based on the physics of the Dead Sea, liquid desiccant is a natural salt water solution that removes humidity directly from the air without the need of adding excess cooling or heating. It is also unique because, in addition to being energy efficient, it is a natural disinfectant. The salt solution removes almost all airborne bacteria and microorganisms in a single pass, and eliminates the need for drip pans or coils that often produce algae and bacteria build-up. As a result, the technology has the additional benefits of improving air quality, removing odors and eliminating many safety hazards.
Advantix Systems’ dehumidification and cooling solutions utilize liquid desiccant technology to simultaneously cool and remove humidity directly from the air, avoiding common humidity problems and the re-heating step while delivering energy savings of 30 to 50 percent. In addition, the units eliminate 91 percent of airborne microorganisms and 80 percent of particulates in a single pass.
Innovative Service Solutions was awarded an Advantix Systems unit for its first place prize.
